Do something drastic, cut the plastic

Today we celebrate the ban on single-use plastic items such as straws, cutlery, plates, cotton swabs and balloon sticks.
In December 2018, representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU countries jointly agreed upon a directive to combat the ‘plastic soup’.
From today, 3th of July, the EU ban on disposable plastics is finally effective. Some disposable plastic products will be banned starting today. Other products will have to be labelled and manufacturers of disposable plastics will have to start contributing to processing the waste. The agreement consists of several measures:

Currently there are over 150 million tons of plastic in our oceans and seas. Although it is not a big decrease of the plastic pollution in the oceans, still every bit helps.
